The gift of speech is a truly amazing thing. We can take a long-winded series of sounds and translate them into a concise abstract of relatively the same meaning without having to expend too much energy. Summarizing a story is not just taking the most important words, sentences, and what have you. It's rephrasing something into different words and intuitively knowing what's "important" and what's not.
